Fix a Document

Not sure what needs fixing? Run an audit first to see the full picture, then come back here to auto-fix. Read the fix guide

What does the fix do?

For Word documents, the fixer automatically corrects ACB Large Print compliance issues: fonts to Arial, sizes to 18pt/22pt/20pt, italic removed, bold emphasis converted to underline, flush-left alignment, line spacing, margins, widow/orphan control, hyphenation off, and language set. You download a fixed copy -- your original is not modified.

For Markdown files, the fixer corrects heading hierarchy, italic removal, and em-dash replacement. Other Markdown issues require manual review.

For Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files, auto-fix is not yet available. You will receive an audit report with detailed findings and manual fix guidance instead.

Accepted formats: Word (.docx) and Markdown (.md) for auto-fix; Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF (.pdf), and ePub (.epub) for audit-only guidance. Maximum size: 500 MB.

Additional Options
List Indentation

ACB guidelines require all text to be flush left. By default, list items are set to zero indentation. Uncheck the box below to keep standard Word list indentation or set custom values.

When checked, bullet and numbered list items start at the left margin with no indentation.

Paragraph Indentation

ACB guidelines require flush-left paragraphs with no indentation. By default, paragraph left indent and first-line indent are reset to zero. Uncheck the box below to keep existing indentation or set custom values.

When checked, body paragraph left indent and first-line indent are both set to zero.

Heading Detection (Word only)

Detect paragraphs formatted as headings (bold, large font) but not using real heading styles. The fixer can convert them to proper headings for better structure and accessibility.

Uses heuristic analysis to identify paragraphs that look like headings but use Normal or other non-heading styles. Converts them to Heading 1, 2, or 3 as appropriate.

Enabled by default. Recommended for pasted or unstructured Word documents where visual headings were not applied with real heading styles.

How does the fix work?

The tool always applies all available auto-fixes to your document to ensure maximum compliance. The mode you select above controls which rules are highlighted in the results report:

  • Full Fix shows all rule results.
  • Essentials Fix shows only Critical and High severity results.
  • Custom Fix shows only the rules you select.

Regardless of mode, your downloaded Word document will have all auto-fixable issues corrected. Some issues (like heading hierarchy and document title) require manual attention.

For heading detection, use the heading accuracy mode to tune behavior: Conservative reduces false positives, Balanced is the default, and Thorough captures more possible headings for review.

For Excel and PowerPoint, the tool runs a full audit and provides a detailed remediation guide. Auto-fix support for these formats is planned for a future release.
